Is Hulu really coming to the iPhone?

Rumors have been swirling around that a Hulu app will soon make its place in the App Store. I myself first heard the report from CNet that the app is in the making and will be here in just a few months. I felt this a good thing to post on the blog later so I did a quick check on that post and i seen they had added an update quoting one of the workers from Hulu saying that they do not have plans to build an iPhone application. So I put off the blog post since it was obliviously just a rumor. I later was talking with a friend I mentioned how nice it would be to have a Hulu app on the iPhone so I went back to the blog post to give him so he could check it out. But I noticed they had removed the quote from the person at Hulu.

This could mean a few things. 1. Hulu asked them to remove the quote. 2. They removed it so people will talk and get more publicity. 3. They actually didn’t speak with someone at Hulu.

So will we see a Hulu application coming to the iPhone? I think not, let me elaborate on this…

If you are a user of the wonderful application Boxee you will know that Hulu asked them to be removed from they’re streaming sources because of issues with Hulu’s advertisers not being happy with it. This made Boxee users furious and puzzled at the same time. The reason being the adverts that display durring the videos still show when streaming Hulu video through Boxee but they didn’t want it. So anyways it ended up Hulu told them they had to remove it. So I am thinking if Hulu’s advertisers doesn’t want people streaming content through Boxee on your Apple TV or Mac, why would the advertisers be happy with streaming to the iPhone? Just something I thought I would mention.

Voice Recognition found in the 3.0 Firmware

Lots of features are being discovered in the 3.0 beta firmwares and this newest one is voice recognition. This new feature is called Jibbler, but it wont be an app you open, it will be built into the homescreen. This new voice feature will be more like an add-on to the new Spotlight search feature in the 3.0 firmwares. We suspect these new voice features will be similar to whats in the newest iPod Shuffle. Adding voice recognition to the iPhone will bring it up to speed with a lot of other phones in that aspect. Although I don’t see any big need for it since voice recognition can get very annoying at times. But the more features the better!

QuickOffice for iPhone and iPod Touch

Have you ever been working on a paper on your computer but then suddenly have to go somewhere? Even though you haven’t finished your paper yet? Well here is the solution! It is called QuickOffice and it is 20 dollars in the App Store (unless you get it from installous and I already did).

So basically this is Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel for your iPhone or iPod Touch. It is simply amazing! You can transfer the files from your computer to your iPhone or visa versa with wifi! No cable required! You can create new text or excel documents and edit them and do you entire assignment on your iPhone! Then when you get to school just go to the computer lab, hook up to the wifi network and print it! Its simply fantastic! More instructions on how to use this are in the application. So go download this from Installous (reccommended; 20 bucks is alot lol) and start writing your papers on the go! Thanks guys!

Downgrade Your 3G Baseband - pHaseBanDowngrader

This new product for iPhone 3G will allow you to downgrade your baseband from 02.30.03 to 02.28.00 based on GeoHot’s method. Previously, those of you that upgraded to 2.2.1 could not use YellowSn0w. But now you can! iPhone 3G users can now upgrade from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and have it unlocked. Make sure you are on 2.2.1 firmware before trying this. I don’t recommend doing this, it still is pretty unstable and you need to know what you are doing. So please unless you have got some time don’t try this.

Please read the following, which was written by thebigboss source a few days ago on what they have learned about doing this and some of the problems in doing it. I haven’t tried this because I have iPhone 2G, but a lot of people have told me it works great.

Many guys from irc.osx86.org had tested it and they are loving the downgraded iPhone. To use that tool, you need to have an iPhone with the Bootloader 5.8. If your iPhone was manufactured before September 2008, you are 5.8. If your device is 2.2.1 OOB (Out Of Box), you can’t downgrade the Baseband because you have bootloader 5.9.

Instructions:

1. Download this zip folder which can be found here
2. SSH into your iPhone and put the downloaded folder (phasebandowngrader) inside the folder /Applications/
3. In MobileTerminal.app, type “login” and enter “root” as user, the default password is “alpine”.
4. Now, type “cd /Applications/phasebandowngrader && ./phasebandowngrader”.
5. Follow the screen instructions.

What are torrents???

LOADS of my friends come up to me and say, "What are torrents?" I shrug everytime i here that question, because of the thought that THE PIRATE BAY might go any time now. Well, if you are one of the people who don't have a clue what torrents are, then here's a quick guide on what torrents are!

Ok, so, a torrent file can be used with a torrent application, like bittorent or utorrent. It is a file, which allows you to download albums, movies, games etc. off other peoples computers who are seeding the file. Once you download the entire torrent file, you then become a seed, allowing other people to download it off your computer! Simple really! But i myself don't seed, due to the fact it slows down my laptop. So screw you non-seeder haterz! Ok, so, when you are downloading the file, you are a leacher. So when you go to download the files off mininova or the pirate bay, go for the most seeder, and the least leachers!

Whats up with The Pirate Bay?

Pirate Bay's Peter Sunde, speaking on his website: 'We cannot and wouldn't pay'

A court in Sweden has jailed four men behind The Pirate Bay (TPB), the world's most high-profile file-sharing website, in a landmark case.

Frederik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Carl Lundstrom and Peter Sunde were found guilty of breaking copyright law and were sentenced to a year in jail.

They were also ordered to pay $4.5m (£3m) in damages.

Record companies welcomed the verdict but the men are to appeal and Sunde said they would refuse to pay the fine.

The damages were awarded to a number of entertainment companies, including Warner Bros, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI, and Columbia Pictures.

However, the total awarded fell short of the $17.5m in damages and interest the firms were seeking.

Speaking to the BBC, the chairman of industry body the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) John Kennedy said the verdict sent out a clear message.

"These guys weren't making a principled stand, they were out to line their own pockets. There was nothing meritorious about their behaviour, it was reprehensible."

The four men denied the charges throughout the trial, saying that because they did not actually host any files, they were not doing anything wrong.

Speaking on Swedish Radio, assistant judge Klarius explained how the court reached its findings.

"The court first tried whether there was any question of breach of copyright by the file-sharing application and that has been proved, that the offence was committed.

"The court then moved on to look at those who acted as a team to operate the Pirate Bay file-sharing service, and the court found that they knew that material which was protected by copyright but continued to operate the service," he said.

Going on, Salomonsson spoke about Gottfrid’s comments yesterday when he called the Roswall “a crazy bastard” for the way he calculated the damages. This comment was because the Prosecutor has his sums wrong, he said, noting that while the Prosecutor claims there are 64 adverts on TPB, there are really just 4. Salomonsson said the revenue is closer 700,000 kroner rather than the millions claimed. Furthermore, he says that the advert deal shown to the court many times never actually came about, so therefore it should not be accepted as evidence.

OMG!!! 3.0 beta 3 JAILBREAK!!!

On April 14 Apple released iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3 build 7A280f to developers. You know the drill! With each update comes a new jailbreak. Even though iPhone OS 3.0 is still in beta, developers still want to keep the jailbreak. Especially developers that develop for the jailbroken app store. As of this post, QuickPWN 3.0 Beta 3 has been released! Remember, this is an “unofficial release” as it is not created by the iPhone Dev Team. The latest iPhone 3.0 beta 3 firmware has noticeably improved in speed and performance so it’s worth the update. As of right now you can only jailbreak on the iPhone 3.0 Beta 3, iPhone 3G 3.0 beta 3, and iPod Touch 1st Gen 3.0 beta 3 firmware. Support for iPod Touch 2nd gen has not been added. Saurik is working on adding support for Cydia on iPhone OS 3.0 so it won’t work yet. Jailbreaking with this QuickPWN release will install the Icy app created by RipDev. Once you’ve jailbroken you can launch Icy, refresh the sources and install OpenSSH to SSH into it.

iPhone 3.0 Video Recording

We have found out in 3.0 beta 2, that the iPhone will have a video recording application. This could replace the Cycorder in cydia, or for some 3G users Video Recorder 3G. It has been finally confirmed by a Developer with this screenshot of it in action! This will be great for the next iPhone, which has said to have a 3.2 megapixel camera.

What the hell is SSH?

Many people have no idea what SSH is. SSH lets you access all the files in your device, and edit, copy, paste or delete any file. You can use this for copying over rom files, which are located under this post!
To do this, you either need a PC or MAC, and an SSH program (winscp or cyberduck).
If you want to SHH into you iPod Touch or iPhone, it has to be jailbroken, and you need to download openssh from cydia (or icy, depending on what firmware you are on). Open ssh is not an app, and does not have an icon. Open up cyberduck on MAC or winscp on a pc and you will see some box's that you have to fill in. For username type root and for password type alpine. The host name is your IP address, which you can locate by going on setting on your iPod and clicking the little blue arrow next to the wifi connection. Put the IP address in the Host section, and your done!
Now you can see all you files on your iPod or iPhone and do whatever the hell you want with them!!

Assassin’s Creed leaps from XBOX to the iPhone

In the passed couple days, screenshots have emerged on the web of the new version of Assassin’s Creed by Gameloft for the iPhone. This definitely an OMG moment for fans of the game as it brings a whole new level of uber coolness to the iPhone.
In what appears to be a side-scrolling platform game, this is sure to bring the amazing graphics and stunts that made the XBOX version a success. You will control Altair (the protagonist of the game) with your left thumb, making use of the analogue pad to control him in the bottom left corner of the screen. To perform an action, you will use your right thumb and select from a series of jumps/attacks with their own buttons burrowed into the bottom right of the screen.
This is looking to be a port of the DS version of the game. So if you have already played that version, you will familiar with it. No word on pricing yet or release date, but it is anticipated to be released in the App Store in the next couple of weeks.

Jailbreak iPod and iPhone 2.2.1!

The iPhone Dev Team has just released the official QuickPWN 2.2.1 jailbreak for MAC users. Windows users, the official Windows version of QuickPWN has been released. Scroll down below to download it.

Before you update here are some important things you should read first.
1. iPhone 3G users: If you want to unlock your iPhone 3G, do not upgrade to firmware 2.2.1 through iTunes, you must use a custom firmware through PwnageTool (only available to MAC users).

2. Firmware 2.2.1 permanently upgrades the iPhone 3G’s baseband to 02.30.03 and yellowsn0w unlock will not work with this baseband (so you won’t have an unlock if you upgrade your baseband). You must make a custom firmware with baseband 02.28 using PwnageTool.

3. If you’re using MAC 105.6 you won’t be able to get into DFU Mode but here is how you can do this:

1. You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - http://developer.apple.com/mac/
2. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily Log release for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
3. Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
4. Reboot your system!

iPhone 3G locked users
If you don’t ever want to unlock your iPhone 3G then just update to firmware 2.2.1 through iTunes and run QuickPWN to jailbreak.

Just update to firmware 2.2.1 through iTunes and run QuickPWN in order to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone.

You know you want all those apps on the appstore but do you really want to pay all that money? I know i dont! Im going to tell you how to get all those apps for free on 2.2.1 and bellow! Your device has to be jailbroken! Ok, so go ahead and open up cydia, and click on Manage. Then you click on Sources and click edit. Click add and then add this source:

Jailbreak iPod touch 2nd gen 2.2.1

Are you an iPod Touch 2G owner? Today is a good day for you! The Dev-Team have finally released a patch with the codename “24kPwn” which will allow you to perform an untethered iPod Touch 2G jailbreak. Untethered means your iPod Touch 2G won’t need to be rejailbroken every time you reboot your iPod Touch 2G. This patch will always make your iPod Touch 2G jailbreakable no matter what firmware Apple releases. The Dev-Team were originally planning on holding on to this exploit until Apple released the next version of the iPhone so that Apple wouldn’t patch it up but they were forced to release it today because another company somehow found this exploit and started selling it.
Currently the Dev-Team has not packaged this into a PwnageTool/QuickPWN software yet but it will be released in their next official QuickPWN/PwnageTool release. If you cannot wait for the official QuickPWN/PwnageTool release you can try QuickFreedom, a GUI iPod Touch 2G jailbreak software developed by @DanCool999 on iPod Touch Fans forums. Use QuickFreedom or any other iPod Touch 2G jailbreak software at your own risk, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your iPod Touch 2G.

3.0 beta 3 Released!

Okay guys so there has been a new beta released ONCE AGAIN by apple for the 3.0 software. It is iPhone 3.0 Beta 3 and here are the new features:

First let me say this, if you enjoy using Skype on 3G, DO NOT UPDATE. Apple restricts users for using Skype over 3G

- MMS works with modified carrier bundle on German T-Mobile network.
- Spotlight now saves the last search.
- Speed improvements.
